Temperature’s rising for LSU Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matt McMahon and he may be in the hot seat.
For a team that looked hopeful before winter break with an 11-2 record, when the weather cooled down so did they, the team went on a seven-game losing streak to start off the new year and just when things were looking good for them the Florida Gators came to the Bayou and showed them who really runs the swamp.
Since February 8th LSU Men’s Basketball has lost 3 of the last 5 games where they had a first half lead.
Coach McMahon says the message the rest of the season is sustainability and keep playing that first-half basketball all the way to the end.
“[we’re focused on] putting a lot of time and investment into our players to keep them focused on getting better and improving and finding ways to compete in these games. We continue to show great stretches. How do we close these games?”
Closing and sustainability seem to be an issue for the Tigers week in and out, but just how much it cost to close the book on McMahon.
According to USA Today, McMahon signed a seven year 20.3 million dollar contract. If the school decides to get rid of him after this season, it’ll cost them $7.5 million, next season it’ll go down to $6.1 million and by the 2027-28 season it’ll cost $3.15 million
But can LSU afford to wait that long?
The school could put some of this money towards a new roster and hit the transfer portal. We've seen what McMahon can do in the portal having brought in guys like Cam Carter who just a couple years ago was averaging seven points a game, now, he’s averaging 17 .
LSU Men’s Basketball will take on the Tennessee Volunteers Tuesday in the PMAC at 8.
