Last week, LSU made waves at the 2025 SEC championships in Athens, Ga., delivering standout performances that have turned heads in the collegiate swimming world.
The meet ran from February 17-22 and showcased the Tigers’ blend of speed, strength and precision.
The Tigers’ swimmers and divers displayed exceptional form and determination from the meet’s opening day.
More than half a dozen school records shattered, which is a testament to LSU’s unwavering commitment and the effectiveness of its training under Tigers head coach Rick Bishop. Eight new LSU records are now in the books.
In another standout moment in Athens, divers took to the platforms to bring home the hardware. Carson Paul and Montserrat Lavenant earned gold in the women’s platform and men’s three-meter events.
Carson Paul then went on to win the silver medal in the men’s platform event on night six and clutch the title of men’s diver of the meet.
In the pool, sophomore standout Jere Hribar finished fourth in the 100-freestyle relay with a time of 41.25, and not only in the 100-freestyle, but he also brought the speed in the men’s 400-freestyle relay. The four men shattered the current school record with a new time of 2:48.56 with swimmers like Griffin Curtis, who also broke two school records.
On the female side, the women’s 400-yard medley relay finished with a bronze and clutching a spot in the NCAA A cut championship meet. The relay’s seamless transition from swimmer to swimmer in such a tight and competitive event showed that the Tigers aren’t scared of a challenge.
“It’s about as competitive to make finals here(SEC) as it is in the NCAA championships,” said Bishop. “Our athletes are competing really well, we are getting some great performances, and people are stepping up.”
The NCAA Championships, scheduled with women’s events from March 19-22 and men’s events from March 26-29 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash., now stands as the next proving ground for these talented athletes.
LSU continues to push the limits of what is possible. The exceptional performances at the SEC Championships have set new records and laid the groundwork for what promises to be an unforgettable run at the NCAA Championships.
All eyes will be on the Tigers as they aim to transform SEC success into national triumph.
