Interim Louisiana State University President Matt Lee delivered a State of the University address Thursday, highlighting record-breaking enrollment, research milestones, and major campus investments aimed at positioning LSU as the leading force in Louisiana’s future.
Lee emphasized LSU’s expanding statewide impact, referencing visits to every campus and reaffirming the university’s mission of education, discovery, and engagement.
Interim President Matt Lee announced that LSU’s research enterprise surpassed $500 million, with a goal of reaching $800 million, focused on five priority areas: agriculture, health, coastal resilience, cybersecurity, and energy. Among this Lee announced the university secured a $25 million federal contract to develop AI tools for nuclear defense.
The major announcement was the expansion of housing adding 12,000 new student housing beds by 2027 to address growing demand.
The next announcement is a new 193,000-square-foot library, and ongoing renovations to Middleton Library.
LSU’s construction management program is now ranked No. 1 nationally, and a new interdisciplinary science building is set to open next year.
Lee mentioned the goal is to keep LSU leading in research and innovation.
