Baton Rouge has gotten a little sweeter thanks to the newest dessert shop that has taken TikTok by storm. House of Deaux is a cinnamon roll shop that is rising in popularity due to their internet success.
The shop, located in the Mall of Louisiana, makes their cinnamon rolls fresh on a daily basis, with every roll served warm. There are five different flavors to choose from: classic, Oreo, Biscoff, caramel and Dubai chocolate.
When I walked in, there wasn’t a huge crowd. I will say, however, that I have passed this shop many times before, and there’s usually good traction especially on weekends.
I thought the customer service was great and the cashier was very friendly. Since there weren’t many options to choose from, it wasn’t hard to make my decision. I ended up getting the Dubai chocolate cinnamon roll.
I wholeheartedly love Dubai chocolate. It has been my latest dessert obsession, so I was thrilled seeing that flavor option on the menu. If you aren’t familiar with it, Dubai chocolate is milk chocolate (or sometimes dark chocolate) stuffed with pistachio cream, tahini and toasted kataifi.
I have had Dubai chocolate many times in various forms, including strawberries, crepes and even the viral Crumbl Dubai chocolate brownie. Despite my obsession, this was my first time trying a Dubai chocolate cinnamon roll, so I had very high hopes.
Once I ordered, I instantly got my cinnamon roll, which was warm and fresh. I watched the employee dress it up with the pistachio cream, chocolate sauce and crushed pistachios. I was a little disappointed that there was no crispy kataifi on the roll.
The dough was perfectly soft, and the aroma of the fresh frosting lit up in the entire shop. The cinnamon roll was actually really delicious, but sadly, it didn’t taste like Dubai chocolate. I actually didn’t taste the chocolate flavor at all. All of the cinnamon rolls have the same base, so they aren’t infused with their flavors — House of Deaux just places the toppings on top. Because of this, I could barely taste the add ons.
Another important point is that I think their frosting really overpowered all of the additional flavors and it just tasted like a regular cinnamon roll to me. Regardless, I still think it was good, but if I were to go back, I wouldn’t bother re-ordering the Dubai chocolate cinnamon roll and instead just get the classic one.
I would rate my cinnamon roll a 6.5/10. The price point was a little dense for a cinnamon roll in my opinion. I paid $9.50 plus tax for the Dubai chocolate roll. The classic roll is $7.99, and all of the additional flavors are $8.50. Even though I paid more for the Dubai chocolate cinnamon roll because it was a specialty flavor, I don’t think it was worth the upcharge.
Overall, my experience at House of Deaux was enjoyable. I do see why people crowd over there just for cinnamon rolls. I’ve never seen a shop that only sold cinnamon rolls, and I think that this type of originality is what draws in their customers.
