LSU is hosting an NCAA gymnastics regional at the PMAC this week, here is how the competition breaks down.
The NCAA gymnastics post-season bracket and qualification system is different from most sports, and it can be difficult to understand for newcomers. Instead of head-to-head competitions, four teams must compete in each round to move forward.
Each competition holds more weight and pressure for teams as competitors become tougher and scores become closer.
LSU gymnastics failed to recapture its throne at the SEC championship, but now it is time for the team to focus on the post season and reclaim the national title.
Here is the road the Tigers must take to make it to the NCAA National Championship.
No. 2 LSU is hosting one of four regionals in Baton Rouge at the PMAC. Regionals began on Wednesday with a first-round competition between Air Force and Nebraska. The Huskers defeated the Falcons and booked the final spot in the Baton Rouge regional bracket.
On Thursday, April 2, two sessions will compete in round two for a spot in the regional final. The top two teams from each session qualify to the regional final, which will be held on Saturday, April 4.
The teams in Session I are No. 7 Stanford, No. 10 Michigan, North Carolina and Utah State. Along with LSU, No. 15 Clemson, Auburn and Nebraska make up Session II.
Session I will be held at 1 p.m., and Session II will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The competitions will be streamed on ESPN+ and live on ESPN2.
The regional final will be live on ABC.
The other regional locations are Lexington, Kentucky, Corvallis, Oregon and Tempe, Arizona.
The top two teams in each regional final will qualify to the semifinals, which will be held in Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday, April 16. The two highest scoring teams from each semifinal will qualify to the National Championship for a chance at the title on Saturday, April 18.
Bundle and single-session tickets for the regional competition are available through the LSU Athletics Ticket Office, as well as through the LSU Sports website. Prices range from $25-$50 depending on the package.
