Jason Willis, Managing Editor
Why did you join the Reveille?
I joined because I was involved in the student newspaper at my high school and felt like it’d be a dream to get to cover LSU sports. I also have always loved the technical aspect of writing.
What positions have you held at the Reveille?
I’ve been a sports editor, senior sports reporter and sports reporter covering volleyball, softball, football and men’s basketball.
What’s your favorite thing about working at the Reveille?
My favorite thing, besides getting to cover world-class LSU sports and do fun reporter stuff like tracking down sources and interviewing them, is the people. I’ve made so many friends through the Reveille who all share my interest in writing and passion for student journalism.
What’s your favorite story that you’ve written so far?
I’d say it’s a two-way tie between a story I did on basketball player Mike Williams III showing the parallels between his high school and college career and a recent story on football player Will Campbell that showcased his quiet and determined leadership. Features where I get to discuss with many sources and really exercise my writing skills are always the most rewarding.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
In typical college student fashion, I’m not sure. But I may continue pursuing sports reporting, or I may go into corporate communication as I currently intern for the Board of Regents.
