The LSU men’s tennis team will look to earn its first Southeastern Conference victory against No. 11 Texas A&M on Friday in College Station, Texas
The Tigers have stumbled to an 0-4 in SEC play after riding a hot 5-2 start in non-conference play.
LSU’s doubles play has slipped in recent weeks as the Tigers haven’t secured the doubles point since the Vanderbilt match on March 1.
“We had a practice completely devoted to doubles on Tuesday,” said LSU coach Jeff Brown. “We’ve experienced with different combinations and hopefully we will put out some effective pairings this weekend.”
The Tigers will also face off against Michigan at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium on Sunday.
The match Sunday will be only the second home match for the Tigers in the last seven games. LSU has fought its way to a 3-1 home record, while only a 1-4 record away from BatonRouge on the season.
“It’ll be nice to get in front of the fans again,” Brown said. “Hopefully we’ll be able to get something going.”
The Lady Tiger tennis team will also be in conference action this weekend as they will take on No. 3 Texas A&M and Missouri.
Texas A&M is the highest-ranked team in the SEC and third straight ranked opponent LSU will face.
“A&M will probably be our toughest test of the season,” said LSU women’s coach Julia Sell.
The Tigers have struggled to get winning results in SEC play despite improved performances.
LSU raced out to first set leads on all six courts against No. 14 Auburn last weekend, but failed to secure the win.
Freshman Ella Taylor said the Lady Tigers have worked on being more aggressive in practice and hitting better finishing shots.
The Lady Tigers have also played better at home during the season. LSU has a 6-2 record at home, while only a 1-5 record away from Baton Rouge.
“We talk to the them all the time about defending your house,” Sell said. “There’s just more pride when we play here and the players are more comfortable.”
