Another day, another slow start for the LSU softball team ending with commanding win.
For the second consecutive night it took LSU four inning to make an impact on the Tiger Park scoreboard against South Carolina — a game they eventually won 6-0.
“We watch film on all the pitchers and we have these little things that let us know where the pitchers like to throw,” said junior third baseman Tammy Wray. “We come up with a plan together and the coach always tells us if the plan doesn’t work he first time, not to get frustrated. … We have confidence in each other that … somebody is going to get their job done.”
Unlike last night , however, Wray became the hero for the Tigers after launching two, two-run shots past the Tiger Park wall.
“She did such a good job of understanding the plan today,” said LSU coach Beth Torina. “She was able to multiple things and show versatility. The more confident she gets I think the better she’ll be.”
Freshman Bianka Bell produced a two run shot of her own in between Wray’s two productive at bats.
Junior pitcher Ashley Czechner earned the Tigers’ second straight shutout win against the Gamecocks who were one of the Southeastern Conference’s best hitting teams coming into the weekend.
Czechner produced five strikeouts in the one-hit performance. She also only allowed one walk during the game.
The final game of the series will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
