“Welcome to ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway,’ the show where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter.”
Those were the words that started almost every episode of the classic ABC improv show. During its nine seasons on television, it has featured comedians such as Wayne Brady, Ryan Stiles, Brad Sherwood and Colin Mochrie.
The Union Theater will host “An Evening with Colin and Brad” on Wednesday, which will feature the duo performing one night of improvised comedy.
The show originated when Sherwood pitched the idea to Mochrie after doing a number of two-man shows with a friend.
“I pitched it to Colin to see if he wanted to go out and perform at theaters and colleges,” Sherwood said. “We gave it a two-week trial and did a tour and it went really well, and we kept booking. We’ve been touring for 10 years.”
Fortunately for fans of “Whose Line,” the show will have some similarities, with the biggest difference being the lack of a moderator.
“We don’t have a moderator running the show, but we bring lots of audience members on stage so it’s even more audience driven and interactive than ‘Whose Line,’” Sherwood said. “We sort of give them the keys to the car and they drive us wherever they want to go.”
In addition, the improvised games will feature classic games from “Whose Line” and new ones created for the show.
“We’ll be playing games like ‘Sound Effects’ and ‘Moving Bodies,’” Sherwood said. “We’re also doing a bunch of other games that we came up with that use the audience more.”
Recently, the CW announced “Whose Line” will return in July for a limited run.
“Ryan and Colin and Wayne are definitely doing all the episodes,” Sherwood said. “Greg Proops and I are on hold like comedy firemen, and if the show gets picked up, Greg and I will be doing the show, but there’s no guarantee of anything.”
“An Evening with Colin and Brad” starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Union Theater. Tickets are $10 with an LSU student ID.
