Let me start off by saying, I’m well aware of how cheesy the title “Vampire Academy” by Richelle Mead is. I thought it was going to be a dumb series about vampires, but one of my good friends talked me into reading it.
The first book in the series revolves around Rose Hathaway, who is a hampire. She’s half human, half vampire. She wants to be her best friend’s guardian and protect her from the danger and threats that are being delivered. Her best friend is Lissa, a vampire princess.
They were on the run for two years, until they are caught and dragged back to their hidden school, back into the lion’s den.
As Rose and Lissa try to deal with the danger, they also deal with forbidden romances and a new type of elemental magic. Mead creates a world where there are two types of vampires — Strigoi and Moroi. Strigoi are the dangerous killers, Moroi are the royal, human-like vampires who don’t attack anyone.
There’s a lot of sexual tension in this book for it to be a young adult novel. To counter all the tension, there’s also a lot of wit, sarcasm and love. The two love interests are amazing male characters. Christian is wit and darkness, Dimitri is man and all about the rules.
“Vampire Academy” was picked up to become a movie. It was retitled to “Blood Sisters,” which is 1,000 times better than “Vampire Academy.” The three main characters have already been casted. Zoey Deutch will play Rose, Lucy Fry will play Lissa and Danila Kozlovsky will play Dimitri.
It’s set to release sometime next year, so everyone who hasn’t read the book has a year to catch up.
