The University Board of Supervisors awarded a posthumous Bachelor of Arts in Sociology degree to late University student Chris Broussard last week.
Broussard was enrolled in the last three classes required for his degree when he died in August.
Edward Shihadeh, sociology department chair, led the push to award Broussard his degree, and was supported by Gaines Foster, dean of the College of Humanities, and Social Sciences and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Stuart Bell.
“By awarding this degree, the University acknowledges Mr. Broussard’s academic achievements and provides his family with a symbol of appreciation of his talents and the life he shared with us,” Shihadeh said in a statement.
Broussard’s family was not available for comment.
