As any O.G (Original Gladiator) knows, it can be difficult to keep up with the fast-paced world of Pope & Associates. So, now that season three is in full swing, let’s take a look at the key moments from last week’s episode to help us prepare for yet another intense hour of TV.
“Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington” Recap:
1. “You dropped a bomb on me, baby”
As if Olivia didn’t have enough to worry about, she somehow ends up as a hostage on Capitol Hill.
Mary, a grieving mother whose son, Chris, was killed by the FBI, desperately wanted answers as to why her son was a suspected terrorist. Since the file on her son was classified, she was never able to know the truth about his death. So, she goes crazy enough to run into her State Representative’s office fully equipped with homemade bombs strapped to her body. Olivia and the State Representative remain as her hostages.
Olivia, who was in charge of mediating between Mary and the FBI learns the truth about the incident over the phone, but is told not to tell Mary. The President tells Olivia that the situation with Mary’s son was a major screw-up by the FBI. Chris was only posing as a terrorist recruiter, but actually worked for the FBI. Unfortunately, the FBI was careless with their work at the time and didn’t realize Chris was on their side before they shot him down.
Therefore, the file must remain classified and Chris must be publicly known as a terrorist because if not 1) it would show how careless the FBI was and 2) it would publicize a secret operation that 57 other U.S operatives are currently involved in.
Olivia told tell Mary that the President confirmed that her son was actually a terrorist, and despite hearing the “truth,” she decided to set off the bomb. Luckily, however, law enforcement made their way in just in time to save Olivia.
What happened to Mary, you ask? Two words: pink mist.
2. Huck (almost) kills Olivia’s dad
Through the first half of the episode, we saw as Huck secretly followed Rowan to some undisclosed location. When he finds the chance, Huck then pulls out a gun and holds it to Rowan’s head POINT BLANK. But, Huck was being naive! Rowan says he knew Huck was there the whole time and simply strolls to his car and drives off.
Sorry, young grasshopper, but you are still not at the level of your master.
The real intense moment came when Huck returned to OPA and Olivia confronted him. After she asks if he killed her dad, there’s a long silence, at least 10 seconds, where Olivia truly didn’t know if her dad was alive or not. Huck finally responds with a curt “No.” Huck also mentions that Rowan “owns” him.
Can we all agree that Papa Pope has to go?
3. Olivia Breaks it down for Jake
Basically, Olivia tells Jake that, while she’s happy he’s alive, it may not actually be a good thing. Meaning that if Rowan captures you and lets you go, the only reason you’re alive is because he’s not done manipulating you and putting you through hell.
The scene seemed like major foreshadowing to me. Not that we need any fancy symbolic lines to tell us that ‘Scandal’ is going to get C-R-A-Z-Y, but this specifically is hinting at more ridiculousness happening at the hand of Rowan.
Also: talk about daddy issues! Just keep sipping that wine, girl.
4. Poor Baby Teddy
Thank God Karen and Jerry are old enough for boarding school because they possibly won’t need that much therapy when they’re older.
Baby Teddy, on the other hand? He was born at the height of his parents’ dysfunction and now has to live the most critical moments of his life at the center of it all.
5. Scene of the night: You’re drunk Mellie, go home.
A paragraph and a GIF will not suffice when trying to explain how amazing this scene was. Check it out below:
Preview: Episode 3.04 “Say Hello To My Little Friend”
Okay, the title of this episode already tells us that someone is probably going to get shot by someone’s “little friend.” But who those someones are? We’ll have to tune in to find out!
We’re also going back to season one in the sense that this episode follows the story of one of OPA’s clients. A sexting politician. So unrealistic, right?
And most importantly, Operation: Remington comes up again tonight, so hopefully we will finally get the answers we’ve been waiting on since the season premiere!
Check out the preview below and tune in to tonight’s episode on ABC at 10p/9c:
