Grade: D
Julianne Moore is the only reason I didn’t give this film an F. Her character’s creepiness level lived up to the “horror movie” standard. As for the rest of the movie, it was a waste of time. Instead of scaring me, it made me laugh. The unrealistically cruel high school students were a giant joke. Unlike most outcast tales, Carrie had no one on her side. People weren’t scared of her; they were simply cruel because she was the new girl who had been homeschooled. Carrie was portrayed as kind until about the last ten minutes of the movie. I also would have liked to know when and where she developed her telekinetic powers. The film was too vague and too unrealistic — and not because of the super powers, but because of the bullies. Honestly, I wouldn’t even describe it as a horror movie, more like awkward teen flick.
