LSU Baseball Left Fielder Derek Curiel, Starting Pitcher Kade Anderson and Right Fielder Josh Pearson spoke with the media Saturday after LSU’s 16-9 win over West Virginia in Game One of the 2025 Baton Rouge Super Regional.
Curiel, Pearson and Anderson all battled the heat to strong performances in the win, with Curiel and Pearson blasting home runs, Pearson’s the second of two grand slams the Tigers would hit on the day.
“Whether I’m batting first, second, seventh, just trying to go up there and do my job,” Curiel said. “And felt like I executed that well today. And that was just the plan.”
Head Coach Jay Johnson shook up the lineup for the second game running, with Curiel hitting seventh and Josh Pearson hitting leadoff for the first time all season.
“Coach texted me last night and told me I’d be in it. I came today and got ready to go,” Pearson said. “And saw my name was in the lead-off spot, and I knew I had a job to do and had to get the job done.”
While the offense mashed, Kade Anderson battled the heat and a tough West Virginia offense to throw seven important innings for the Tigers, freeing up the bullpen for tomorrow’s game.
“As a pitcher you go through those all the time. It’s how you bounce back from those. It’s a part of what we do,” Anderson said.
LSU now rests and resets for Game Two tomorrow at 5 p.m., as the Tigers look to punch their ticket to Omaha, and West Virginia looks to battle back and force a winner-take-all Game Three.
