If the old lady from the Wendy’s commercial comes back to life asking “where’s the beef?” you can go ahead and direct her to Twitter.
Long gone are the days when celebrity beef was only seen through ambiguous statements in interviews and tacky award show fights. Instead, celebrities have now embraced the act of the “tweef.”
Tweef (Twitter beef)
v.
1. The act of engaging in shady or threatening behavior towards another person on Twitter.
Most tweefs make you wonder if these celebs even have a publicity team. Take a look at a few of the top Tweefs of the year (so far)
1. Keyshia Cole vs. Michelle Williams
It all began with this year’s Super Bowl half-time show. While everyone was stanning out because Beyoncé was proving she may actually be a part of the Holy Trinity, Cole just had to let her opinion be known about Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams.
Williams briefly joined Beyoncé on stage during a tribute to their girl group.
Now, it’s no secret that Williams is not the strongest member of the group, but to insult a fellow musician to her 300K+ followers was not the best decision. Thousands of Destiny’s Child fans began to clap back at Cole saying that she is not one to talk considering she probably couldn’t even get into the Super Bowl.
Months later, Williams told a Philadelphia radio station that she isn’t mad at Cole and would like to meet with her.
“I can’t wait to see her [Keyshia Cole] in person so that we can talk and say ‘Hey, what happened?’ I will say this, I was a major fan of hers,” said Williams.
Keyword: “was.”
Of course Cole had to respond via Twitter:
”Can’t stand when people say things, then act they never said like they better than everyone else. I mean its cool tho. We can link up whnevr.”
2. Lady Gaga vs. Perez Hilton
Gaga and Perez were once bffs, but that’s obviously not the case anymore according to their Twitter accounts.
Earlier this month (perfect timing to try to sabotage Gaga’s new musical releases), Perez decided he would publicly state that he thought Katy Perry’s single “Roar” is better than Gaga’s “Applause.”
Gaga responded with a tweet exposing a text message Perez allegedly sent:
Hilton later responded with a series of tweets:
After a tip from a fan that Perez was trying to rent an apartment in her building, Gaga went completely gaga:
Perez had the last word in the argument when he posted a blog on his website titled “A Statement On Lady GaGa’s Lies.” The post addressed the house-hunting rumor as well as how sad he supposedly is about the end of his friendship with the pop star.
“After a day of innocent house-hunting, I am devastated and my heart hurts that my former very good friend, a person I used to call my ‘wifey’ and traveled the world with, is making very public and very untrue allegations about me on Twitter,” he wrote.
Needless to say, let’s hope Gaga and Perez don’t run into each other in real life.
3. Gucci Mane vs. Nicki Minaj, Ciara, 2 Chainz, Tyga, Jeezy, Waka Flocka, T.I, and basically every rapper that’s even slightly relevant in 2013
Gucci Mane’s very NSFW tweets alluded to trysts with Nicki Minaj and Ciara as well as insults to almost every rapper he could name.
What makes this Twitter rant even more bizarre is that Mr. Mane’s tweets don’t even seem to have been written in English. It’s amazing that we’re able to even understand what he was trying to say.
The rant reportedly began after Gucci Mane reached out to Tyga and Nicki Minaj to do collaboration, but the rappers declined his request. Tyga and Minaj even responded by tweeting the text conversation.
Just days after his bizarre tweefing incident, Gucci Mane was arrested on Saturday for disorderly conduct, weed possession, and carrying a concealed weapon.
He later deleted the tweets and claimed that his manager hacked his account, but that seems less than likely.
4. Karrueche Tran vs. Rihanna
The Chris Brown – Karrueche Tran – Rihanna love triangle has received much attention in the media, mostly because of the subtweets between Rihanna and Karrueche Tran.
Their most recent tweefing incident occurred last month after Rihanna’s cousin posted a picture on Instagram of Karrueche in corn-rows with a caption with multiple alien emojis as if to say she looked like an alien.
As always both parties took to Twitter to share their grievances with their millions of followers.
Rihanna naturally thought the whole thing was hilarious:
Karrueche was not as amused:
Tweef on, tweeps, tweef on. It makes Twitter that much more entertaining.
