The University’s Potters Anonymous Club will host the first annual Yule Ball from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom.
The Yule Ball is based off the fourth Harry Potter book in which students from three schools gather for a tournament, said Elizabeth Ritchey, history junior and president and founder of Potters Anonymous. During the game, a ball is held to encourage the wizarding students to connect with one another.
The ball will be held after the Mardi Gras Quidditch Cup in which the University’s team and nine teams from other schools will be competing, said biology junior Panya Kroum.
The Cup will take place on the Parade Ground from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“In Louisiana, you don’t really need much of an excuse to throw a party, but we figured it would be a good way to sort of get people together in a common interest,” Ritchey said.
Ritchey encourages students to buy advance tickets on the University’s Quidditch page, which are $20 per couple or $15 for an individual. Kroum said advance tickets will be sold via a PayPal account until noon on Saturday.
Buying tickets at the door will cost $20 per person.
The ball is open to all University students and those accompanying University students and Quidditch players, Ritchey said.
Dress for the ball is “business casual,” she said. Men are encouraged to wear khakis or slacks. Women should wear slacks or a skirt and a blouse or a dress.
Some of the music that will be played includes scores from the Harry Potter soundtracks and “wizard rock” songs.
Potters Anonymous is an organization for keeping “the spirit of Harry Potter alive” now that the books and movies are finished, Ritchey said.
