A brand new semester is in full swing here at LSU, leaving the last one in the dust. This new semester is bringing about changes for everyone, including Tiger TV. We’ve got plenty of new stuff heading your way, but before I get into the changes, it’s time to take a minute to reflect a little bit on last semester!
The Fall 2012 semester was a great one for Tiger TV. We were lucky enough to receive a brand new in-studio set, new studio equipment, and an entirely new on-location set.
As far as programming goes, the station switched to an all-new format, having a block of programming from 6-7 pm each day, Tuesday through Thursday. Anchored by our “Newsbeat” and “Sports Showtime” programs, along with the return of “The Ramen,” our new daily format welcomed two brand new shows.
“The Big Show,” and “The Hot Spot” made their debut in Fall 2012. The Big Show being a show that focused mainly on global issues and politics, and The Hot Spot being a new entertainment show, which was the most-watched show on our channel by the end of the semester.
Just as our semester’s programming kicked off, LSU was rocked by the one thing Louisianians never want to see: a hurricane. Hurricane Isaac wreaked havoc all over Louisiana, but we made the best out of a bad situation, hunkering down here in the basement of Hodges Hall and going right to work.
With brand new equipment and a short-handed staff, we produced seven live specialty shows called “Tracking Isaac.” The shows were packed full information on the storm and updates on what was going on around campus. Reporters grabbed cameras and braved the winds of Isaac to capture footage of fallen trees, students stuck in dorms, and other destruction around campus.
We did everything in our power to make sure the students, our viewers, were well informed.
Aside from our Isaac specialty shows, we dedicated our Saturdays to our work and produced the “Tiger TV Tailgate Show” just hours before each home football game, including the game against Alabama. We had special guests that included interim chancellor William “Bill” Jenkins, Gymnastics head coach D-D Breaux, Men’s Basketball head coach Johnny Jones, and Women’s Basketball guard Jeanne Kenney.
Election Day brought about yet another specialty show. The night of the election we produced four shows over a three hour period all focused on the election. Each show gave live updates on how the polls looked in each state, projections, and commentary about the candidates.
Now that you have an idea of what went on last semester, it’s time for a preview of what’s to come!
We have another special sports show coming your way, but this time the focus is on the gymnastics team. Reaching over 10 million homes between Tiger TV, CST and Comcast Sports South, “Inside LSU Gymnastics” takes an in-depth look at the nationally-ranked LSU gymnastics program and their 36-year coaching veteran D-D Breaux.
Taking the place of “The Big Show”, “The Update” that will be filled with news, sports and jokes. Meanwhile, “The Hot Spot” has moved up to 30 minutes due to it’s increasing popularity.
This semester at Tiger TV will be filled new ideas and new developments, and we cannot wait to show all of you. We go live for the first time this semester on Tuesday, January 22nd, where you can begin watching our programming Tuesdays through Thursdays starting at 5 pm.
If you happen to miss it, do not stress, all the shows will be posted on our website soon after they air, along with EXCLUSIVE web-only programming, such as Sports Showtime weekend updates on Mondays and Fridays, and Newsbeat daily updates throughout the week. Be sure to check us out at tigertv.tv!
