The LSU women’s swimming and diving team celebrated senior day with a sweep at the Women’s Quad Meet that concluded at the LSU Natatorium today.
In their final regular season meet, the Lady Tigers defeated Tulane 241-110, topped Rice 203-143 and beat Houston 218-134.
Overall, LSU won 11 of the 19 events and had swimmers finish 1-2-3 in the 100 yard backstroke and the 200 yard individual medley.
“You always want to send the seniors out on a positive and happy note like that,” said LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer. “Winning three dual meets with Tulane, Houston and Rice puts a little extra icing on the cake.”
Geyer said the most special senior day performance he saw came from Sally Wood.
In Wood’s last home race, the 400 yard individual medley, she pulled away from the pack and won by more than six seconds.
“It’s special to me because it’s our last dual meet,” Wood said. “It was my last event here and it will be the last win I ever have so overall it was a great day for me.”
After the meet ended the eight seniors jumped off the 10 meter diving board one last time, a long-standing LSU tradition.
LSU won’t compete again until the Southeastern Conference Championship meet on Feb. 19 at Texas A&M.
“I’m really pleased with our performances this weekend and with some rest I think we’ll be in a great position heading into the conference meet,” Geyer said.
Senior Elle Schmidt was the Lady Tigers’ highest finishing diver, placing third in the women’s 1 meter dive.
