Freshman men’s tennis player Justin Butsch has been named Southeastern Conference Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week because of his recent clutch play for the Tigers.
Butsch had two match clinching wins last week, including a victory against now-No. 54 George Washington going 6-2, 6-3 on court four, dominating his opponent at a time when George Washington was on a seven-game win streak.
His second clincher came in the match against Nicholls State on Sunday, beating his opponent in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.
Against Texas A&M, Butsch was moments away from getting his third SEC win of the season, leading his opponent 5-3 in the third set before the Aggies were able to secure the 4-0 victory on court two.
Butsch is the only Tiger on the roster this season without a loss in SEC play going 2-0 with an overall record of 9-4 so far this season.
LSU returns to action Friday when they take on Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss.
