The premium cable network HBO announced recently that it would be continuing its trend of innovating in the field of television. After many viewers expressed their disappointment with the ending of the first season of the recent hit show “True Detective,” HBO executives said it was time for the fans to have a say in how the show plays out.
The television show was a hit among viewers who loved men speaking in too many metaphors with a fake southern drawl.
A company spokesperson said that after seeing the hashtag #TrueDetectiveSeason2 on Twitter, the creators took notice. The idea took Twitter by storm, with hundreds of fans pitching their ideas for who the detective duo for the next season should be, such as Banksy and the Kool Aid man. The representative said the professional writers at HBO were impressed at how intricately thought out and developed all of the social media website’s user ideas were.
To incorporate some of these ideas that are like, totally awesome, HBO has put an online poll on its website where HBOGO subscribers and the dozens of friends who share their accounts can have their voices heard as the second season goes into pre-production.
The poll calls for fans to submit ideas for a crime fighting duo take the stage in the next season.
“I’m sure the intelligent folks of the Internet will choose the main characters of the show with the same sense of subtlety and insight that I would,” said show creator Nic Pizzolatto.
The early frontrunners in the competition were Optimus Prime and Dracula, McGruff the Crime Dog and Tyrion Lannister and Batman and Garfield the cat. One of the first duos eliminated from voting was Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Many critics take this as a sign that voters believe the characters did actually die during the season finale.
Ultimately, the winners of the contest ended up being the somewhat unlikely duo of Morgan Freeman and Speed Racer. This will mark the first time the two have worked together and will hopefully make for a great second season for the show.
When asked for a statement about the decision, an HBO spokesperson said:
“Someone once told me time is a flat circle. Everything we’ve ever done or will do, we’re gonna do over and over and over again.”
