LSU President F. King Alexander will post a video giving a state of the University address within the next two weeks.
Alexander said he filmed the video a few weeks ago, tweeting a picture of himself in front of a video camera, but it has not been made available to students yet.
Alexander’s video coincides with one of the initiatives of The Next Step LSU, said Clay Tufts, newly inaugurated Student Government president. Tufts said he is currently working to create a plan for a yearly event with the same title.
Tufts said the event would ideally include presidents of many different student organizations as well as University administrators, giving them a platform to deliver information to students about what they are doing. The event is not fully formed, and the time of year it would be held is undecided. Tufts said they had also thought of having the event forum-style.
Tufts said the event is one of many initiatives SG will be working on going into the next school year to improve students’ lives and make information easily available.
Alexander said he plans to film a video or two each semester to make available for students. He said while the University sends out administrative news through email regularly and hosted a dinner for students at the start of the fall 2013 semester, he is hoping students will watch to keep up-to-date on the University.
Lena Simon, an international student from Germany, said she did not feel there was a need for state of the University videos because of frequent emails and news alerts.
Because the information will be delivered to students through his video, Alexander said the amount of times the video is viewed will be monitored to see how often state of the University videos should be made or whether students are using them.
Tufts said transparency about things going on within the University is important to both himself and Alexander, and this will take it one step further.
Erefaka Derefaka, kinesiology sophomore, said the event and video will be good because students need to know what is going on with the school, and a lot of times they do not know what is happening.
