Man unaffiliated with University issued misdemeanor summons for remaining on campus after being forbidden
On April 16, LSU Police Department officers arrested Fred Miles Levy, 52, of 5960 West Rio Drive, for being found on campus after being banned, said LSUPD spokesman Capt. Cory Lalonde.
LSUPD officers were dispatched to the Life Sciences building after receiving a suspicious persons report.
Officers identified Levy, who matched the description given in the report, on the second floor of the building, Lalonde said.
Officers were able to detain Levy after he attempted to flee the building.
Levy told officers he was on campus visiting a friend who was a maintenance worker for the Life Sciences building, but investigators later discovered no one with the name given by Levy worked for the department, Lalonde said.
University student arrested for stealing from fraternity house
On April 18, LSUPD officers arrested Hunter Shows, 19, of 17621 Silver Fox, for stealing from one of the fraternity houses on campus, Lalonde said.
An officer patrolling West Fraternity Lane noticed a male subject running toward the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity house, Lalonde said.
The officer detained the runner, later identified to be Shows, and two other suspects after finding them on the side of the fraternity house.
Shows admitted to investigators that he stole two paintings, a large greek letter and three billiard sticks from the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity house after gaining access to the building by climbing through one of its windows, Lalonde said.
Officers released the two other suspects after learning they did not enter the house with Shows, Lalonde said.
Shows was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for simple burglary.
Man unaffiliated with University arrested at traffic stop for possession of narcotics and a firearm
On April 19, a patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with broken brake lights traveling south on Nicholson Drive, Lalonde said.
The officer approached the vehicle, belonging to Charles Lyles, 22, of Myrtle Hill Drive, and smelled the odor of burning marijuana, Lalonde said.
The officer also noticed a small handgun hidden under Lyles’ leg, Lalonde said.
Upon searching the vehicle, the officer located a plastic bag containing a small amount of cocaine, a second bag containing one gram of marijuana and a third bag containing pills for which Lyles did not have a prescription, Lalonde said.
The pills found in the vehicle are not considered controlled dangerous substances.
Upon his arrest, Lyles complained of a medical emergency and was transported to the nearest hospital.
Lyles was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison after being released from the hospital. His charges included: driving with broken brake lights, possession of pills without a prescription, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm near a controlled dangerous substance.
