Though Louisiana is not generally associated with great heights, that doesn’t mean adventurous Louisianians can’t get a bird’s-eye view of the world.
Located in Denham Springs, Tiki Zipline and Tiki Tubing gives locals a chance to soar above the trees and relax in the sun. The zipline course is one of only two in Louisiana, and avid zipliners would have to travel as far as Tennessee to see a zipline course this large.
Daniel Truxillo, manager at Tiki Zipline and Tiki Tubing, has been working at the company for six years and still loves the feeling of going through the course.
“The zipline is not an everyday activity, it’s a big thrill,” Truxillo said. “It is the closest we can come to actually flying.”
Upon arriving on the property, guests are suited up for the adventure with a helmet, gloves and a harness. The zip guides give a quick safety lesson before taking off down the course.
The course features nine different ziplines that range from 300 to 1,600 feet long and 60 to 100 feet off of the ground. Each line offers a different view of the scenic property. The course also has a 285-foot long rope bridge, which crosses the Amite River.
“We get adventure-seekers, people looking to have a good time and people looking to check things off of their bucket list,” Truxillo said. “I’ve met people from all corners of the country coming through here to have a good time.”
Tiki is located on the Amite River where the Tiki Tubing service runs. Tiki Tubing offers a six-mile float down the river, which has 18 sand bars and beaches along the way.
“Lots of college kids love the tubing because once they hit the river, they’re on their own and can have a great time,” Truxillo said.
On a busy weekend, as many as 3,000 people come to the river to float and party. The weekdays offer a more family oriented environment and relaxed atmosphere for people who want to experience the river at a slower pace.
Tiki’s main goal is to provide an enjoyable atmosphere for people to relax and experience something new.
“You just can’t beat ziplining all day,” Truxillo said.
“The zip line is not an every day activity, it’s a big thrill. Its the closest we can come to actually flying.”
