With new album “Medicine” to hit shelves in January 2015, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors is excited to share new music with fans.
“When you write and record new songs, that’s kind of what you’re most excited to play,” Holcomb said.
Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors is a folk, rock band led by frontman Holcomb along with wife, Ellie Holcomb on vocals and guitar, Nathan Dugger on guitar and keys and Rick Brinsfield on bass.
The group is celebrating its ten year mark and along with performing three or four new songs from “Medicine” at Voodoo Music and Arts Experience on Nov. 2, provided fans with what they’ve supported for years.
The band planned to provide attendees with a set that combined that they knew and what they were to expect in January.
Drew Holcomb said the band has plenty of experience playing at music festivals, including past appearances at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, but this is its first time at Voodoo.
“There’s just something, kind of the community aspect of a music festival that is a lot better than just going to see a show at a club,” Drew said.
He said while attendees head to a festival for two or three sets, they ended up seeing 20 or 30, leading to plenty of new music discovery. The festival atmosphere allows for bands to pick up new fans that happened to wander across the grounds to listen. This is something incredibly beneficial for Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, who have created a record that’s a tad bit different from its previous ones.
Drew Holcomb said the album was recorded with a new producer and was completed in eight days as opposed to eight weeks, which is what the band is used to. He said a large difference for this record compared to past ones, is the band had a lot of fun.
He said they didn’t over think and just had some fun in the studio, “a big step in the right direction.”
“It’s a very organic kind of album that is, I don’t know, reminds me a lot of my favorite records kind of like Van Morrison records and James Taylor records, Tom Petty records. It’s kind of got this very musical, no studio tricks. It’s just five guys in the studio,” Drew said.
