Talk Talk began as a Duran Duran synth pop soundalike and over the course of their decade long career grew to be one of the most ambitious and talented groups of their time. Originally leaning more towards traditional 80s pop sounds on their first two albums “The Party’s Over” and “It’s My Life”, the band began to incorporate more analogue instruments and experiment with their sound, resulting in three stellar albums that often defied the traditional notions of the pop canon that brought them initial success. By the time their last two records were released, the band had morphed into a post-rock/jazz/avante garde musical hybrid that dispensed with things such as singles and touring, but nevertheless Talk Talk solidified their legacy as one of the most influential and fascinating bands of the 80s and early 90s with the sheer quality of their work. The band ended in 1991 after the release of their last album “Laughing Stock,” and songwriter Mark Hollis went on to release a self titled album in 1998 that was met with critical acclaim.
