LSU was fined $5,000 by the Southeastern Conference after an estimated 20,000 fans rushed the field following the Tigers’ 10-7 upset of then-No.3 Ole Miss on Saturday.
The conference announced the fine in a news release Monday afternoon, citing a violation of the league’s access to competition area policy, which went into effect on Dec. 1, 2004.
The policy reads ”access to competition areas shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area. It is the responsibility of each member institution to implement procedures to ensure compliance with this policy.”
The $5,000 fine is the typical fine for a school’s first offense of the policy.
