SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) A line of severe thunderstorms moving across the state ahead of a cold front has prompted at least one university to close, felled numerous trees and power lines and placed all of southeastern Louisiana and parts of southern Mississippi under a tornado watch.
The National Weather Service in Shreveport says Monday’s storms brought high winds and rain over much of north Louisiana. University of Louisiana at Monroe spokeswoman Kiwana Sutton says several trees are down as a result, prompting officials to cancel all classes and shutter the campus.
Sutton says the university is assessing the campus to see whether there’s any building damage. She says the university will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, with classes resuming at 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, a tornado watch is up until 10 p.m. Monday.
