Melvins
One of Voodoo’s more surprising acts to perform this year is Melvins, a highly-influential Washington rock group that paved the way for famous grunge and progressive metal bands like Nirvana, Tool and Butthole Surfers. Since forming in 1983, Melvins has held a steady pace of album releases, with 2014’s “Hold It In” coming out Oct. 14. In terms of merchandise, Melvins divides its apparel into band designs and shirts conceived by lead singer Buzz Osborne. A new addition to the collection is the “Hot Wheels” shirt, which features the stylized title of the Melvins’ major label debut, “Houdini.” Osborne’s most intriguing contribution is a “King Buzzo” shirt, boasting a large print of a deformed playing card. Both shirts are priced at $25.
Zedd
Anton Zaslavski, better known as electro-house DJ “Zedd,” is one of Voodoo’s most anticipated acts this year. Zedd’s own takes on pillars of electronic music like dubstep and house have made him into a household name of modern DJ-ing. Since Zedd takes the stage at 8:30 p.m., you should have plenty of time during Voodoo to grab either of his two $20 shirts featuring the phrase “Zedd’s not dead baby!” in super sized font. Also available for $23 is the “Shave It” t-shirt, which sports the Zedd logo and a bear brandishing a straight razor.

Big Freedia
Acclaimed “Queen of Bounce” Big Freedia will making an appearance at this year’s Voodoo, performing at the considerably late slot of 9 p.m. The New Orleans bounce music innovator is known for her electric live shows and above average fashion sense. Big Freedia’s merchandise options include a variety of vibrant self-promoting T-shirts, one of which proudly displays the words “yaka yaka yaka,” Big Freedia’s notable call to intense dancing. A more rare merchandise option is the “Big Booty” iPhone 5 cover. This case depicts a well-endowed dancer presenting Big Freedia’s initials on both cheeks.
City and Colour
Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green, who performs under the name City and Colour, should be one of Voodoo’s more subdued performances. Green, who is known for his acoustic musicianship and folk sensibilities, will bring a softer touch to the usually heavy-handed rock and R&B power that Voodoo presents each year. Following this vein of dissimilarity, City and Colour’s merchandise offers options unlike those typically found in the festival’s booths. Fans could potentially walk away from the set with a $55 baseball cap made by Ebbets Field Flannel with stitched branding. Printed with lyrics from the song “Two Coins,” a charcoal tote bag can be yours for $30.

Manchester Orchestra
Hailing from the alt-rock Mecca of Atlanta, Georgia, Manchester Orchestra is one of many artists who will bring intense stage presence to Voodoo. Known for his powerful live shows, lead singer Andy Hull’s most recent project is Bad Books, a group in which he performs alongside indie authority Kevin Devine. There is much speculation over whether or not members of Bad Books will make a surprise appearance onstage with Manchester Orchestra during the performance. Unfortunately, Manchester Orchestra offers little in the way of merchandise. Aside from the sale of its five albums, the most recent being “Hope,” possible goodies include an assortment of stylized T-shirts, including the popular Atlanta Braves graphic and a new “Birdman” design, featuring an anthropomorphized stork.
Foo Fighters
One of Voodoo’s biggest names this year is Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl, who was best known as the drummer for grunge pioneer Nirvana, has developed his own reputation as the lead guitarist and singer for Foo Fighters, which started shortly after Nirvana’s disbanding. In the band’s 20th year, Grohl has been hard at work creating a combination documentary series and album entitled “Sonic Highways.” Though the series has already debuted on HBO, the album is set to release on Nov. 10. Since Foo Fighters has been busy in this latest project, most of its merchandise revolves around “Sonic Highways” and the promotion thereof. Fans can grab deals with “Sonic Highways” shirts and media packages, which include the new album.
