The LSU Tigers opened up their home schedule with a 56-0 romp of Sam Houston State Saturday in Death Valley. The game also signified the first LSU football game in the newly renovated stadium with the South Stadium Expansion.
Offensive lineman Evan Washington said he enjoyed seeing the renovations and fan excitement.
“It looks amazing,” Washington said. “The fans were nice tonight. The new jumbotrons, everything.”
Head Coach Les Miles was pleased with the Tigers’ effort, and their ability to play some young guys.
“I think our football team grew up a little bit today.” Miles said. “We had some young guys out there making tackles, catches, and runs. Young guys throwing to young guys.”
LSU wide receiver Travin Dural hauled in three touchdowns in the first 17 minutes of the game. One of those was a 94-yard touchdown catch on the first play from scrimmage, the longest touchdown pass in Tiger Stadium history.
Leonard Fournette scored his first touchdown as a LSU Tiger with a six-yard scamper in the second quarter. Fournette celebrated the touchdown with a controversial Heisman pose.
The Tigers look to keep their momentum going as undefeated UL-Monroe rolls into Baton Rouge next Saturday.
