Leonard Fournette, Malachi Dupre, Brandon Harris – the list goes on. For much of the off-season all of the attention has been focused on LSU’s new crop of offensive freshman talent. After departing players such as Zach Mettenberger, Jeremy Hill, Odell Beckham, and Jarvis Landry – it’s natural to think about their replacements.
However, in 2014 LSU will return to rely on its defense – a unit that has historically been the program’s catalyst for success. Returning players such as Danielle Hunter and Tre’Davious White will be joined by their own crop of freshmen talent with newcomers Jamal Adams and Clifton Garrett leading the way.
With only one week of camp in the books, Garrett has high hopes for his new Tiger team mates.
“Our defense is looking pretty good so far. We’re going to have to keep working and building, but we’re looking pretty good,” Garrett said.
With what has essentially become an LSU trademark – “DBU” – looks to maintain the reputation built from years past. White is excited for this year’s edition.
“(We’re) very energetic…we have guys that are eager to learn, just hungry to be the best,” White said.
The Tigers hope to have plenty to feast on when they face a Wisconsin offense in transition on August 30th.
