At least 50 people were involved in a brawl at Tigerland around 2 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.
BRPD spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. said the brawl, which occurred on 1115 Bob Pettit Blvd. near Reggie’s, was the outcome of “a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical altercation.”
Though police officials have yet to release information regarding the cause of the brawl, eyewitnesses claim the fighting broke out in front of a Nacho Mama’s food truck.
Officers were quick to respond to the brawl and eyewitnesses claim there was a police helicopter surveying the scene of the altercation, which Coppola said is not uncommon in response to large area incidents.
Of those involved, several were injured, said BRPD spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely. The extent of the injuries is unclear, though some of those involved required medical attention later that night.
One witness, who said he was attacked randomly during the brawl and suffered a fractured nose and required stitches in his mouth, claimed in a Twitter conversation that many of the people involved in the altercation were not University students.
At this time, no arrests have been made and there are currently no suspects, Coppola said.
