The LSU baseball team received its highest preseason ranking since 2010 today when it appeared at No. 2 on the 2014 USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll.
LSU was one of five Southeastern Conference programs ranked in the Top 25, and Cal State Fullerton was the top-ranked team in the nation.
Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball both ranked the Tigers earlier this week, placing them at No. 9 and No. 3, respectively. The Tigers will look to bounce back in 2014 from two losses in their first two games in Omaha, Neb., last season during the 2013 College World Series.
This season’s roster features only four seniors, three of whom joined the squad last season. Two first-team preseason All-Americans – junior starting pitcher Aaron Nola and sophomore shortstop Alex Bregman – will be expected to lead a young squad through a tough 2014 conference schedule. Nola was the 2013 SEC Pitcher of the Year, while Bregman was the 2013 National Freshman of the Year.
The Tigers will hold their official Media Day on Friday, Jan. 31, and they will open the season on Friday, Feb. 14 against UNO.
