The University will not be affected by Governor Bobby Jindal’s state government hiring freeze, according to University director of external affairs Jason Droddy.
“The executive order does not apply to higher education,” Droddy said.
Jindal’s order, announced Thursday, instituted a hiring freeze in the executive branch of state government, in an attempt to save at least $7 million for the state general fund.
The order states that certain positions in the departments of higher education, direct patient care and direct public safety positions will be exempt from the hiring freeze.
Among the departments subject to the order include the LSU Health Sciences Center, Health Care Services Division.
Other departments that will be subject to the freeze include Veterans Affairs, Economic Development and the State Police Commission.
According to the order, the freeze could remain in effect until June 30, 2015.
