Just more than a week after its final game of the season, the LSU volleyball team suffered its biggest loss of the year.
Sophomore middle blocker Briana Holman has elected to transfer to another school, associate sports information director Clyde Verdin confirmed Tuesday morning. The team declined to comment on the situation.
Holman helped the Tigers reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament the last two seasons. LSU lost to No. 10 overall seed Oregon in four sets on Friday, Dec. 5, in Holman’s final game as a Tiger.
She led LSU in blocks each of her two seasons and in kills this season. The DeSoto, Texas, native was named to the All-Southeastern Conference team both years in Baton Rouge.
Holman will likely be replaced by junior middle blocker Khourtni Fears, who missed most of 2014 with a knee injury. Junior outside hitter Emily Ehrle rotated at middle blocker this season and could also potentially fill the void left by Holman’s departure.
Though Holman will be gone, the Tigers have depth at the position after signing two middle blockers, Olivia Beyer and Brittany Welsh, to their 2015 class.
