Neal Skupski, a former LSU men’s tennis player, played in the U.S. Open in New York. Skupski made an impressive run, finishing in his highest placement in a men’s doubles grand slam as he and his partner Wesley Kooolhof lost in the finals.
Skupski won a total of five rounds on his way to the finals, including a standout win in the quarterfinals in two straight sets. Skupski headed into the tournament coming off of a mixed doubles win in Wimbledon for the second year in a row. Before the U.S. Open, Skupski’s highest men’s doubles placement in a grand slam came in a string of quarter final appearances. Skupski now ranks as No. 3 in doubles in the world.
Skupski is a former Men’s Tennis player at LSU, having a very decorated four years in Baton Rouge. Skupski accumulated an impressive history of personal accolades with the Tigers, including three years as an All American, 2011 Louisiana Player of the Year and four years as Second Team All-SEC. He is the brother of former LSU player Ken Skupski, another decorated LSU tennis player.
Skupski still shows love to the Tigers, replying to an LSU men’s tennis tweet boasting about Skupski’s long run into the U.S. Open.
“Geaux Tigers!” Skupski tweeted in response to LSU.
Skupski and his partner are still chasing the No. 1 ranking and their first doubles grand slam title, but the pair have been on a roll in 2022 thus far. The England and Dutch natives have won six titles in total so far, and will look to continue their success for the rest of the year.
