The pop, punk-rock princess is heading to New Orleans for the sixth stop on her first world tour.
The 21-year-old former Disney star Olivia Rodrigo released her first album “Sour” in 2021 and blew up immediately. Rodrigo’s second album, “GUTS”, has done even better. The album was released in late 2023 and includes the hit single “vampire”.
Fans on social media have been conflicted on whether they want to make an appearance because of many factors. Here’s every reason why Rodrigo fans would and wouldn’t want to attend the “GUTS” tour.
Olivia:
Rodrigo’s debut album “Sour” created her original fan base; however, “GUTS” brought in the new fans she has today. The two albums are very different from one another, and from what fans have seen on social media, so are the tours.
The world tour surpasses the quality of Rodrigo’s debut concert tour. The “Sour” tour had minimal production, with Rodrigo often on the stage alone. Blue and purple lighting effects were seen shining on the sequin curtain backdrop, but other than that, there wasn’t much set design. The “GUTS” tour has everything from background dancers to high-definition visuals behind the popstar.
This tour is an opportunity for fans to claim themselves as “day one supporters”. Since this is only the beginning for Rodrigo, fans should take the chance to see her on her first world tour. In the future, there’ll be many more performances to attend, but seeing the star perform in her early days will be something to brag about.
Despite this early time in her career, Rodrigo and her fans have already created an aesthetic around the fan base. Fans of artists like Taylor Swift and Harry Styles have changed the concert fashion game in recent years. Rodrigo’s concert gives people a chance to express creativity in their fashion for a night. The most notable fashion accessories include sequins, bows, mini shorts and the color purple. This concert gives fans two hours to dress up, dance and sing to their favorite pop punk or heartbreak songs.
Lyla:
Tickets to Rodrigo’s tour have been pricey and challenging for fans to obtain due to her growing popularity. As soon as tickets for the “GUTS” world tour went on sale, fans were left disappointed.
Ticketmaster hosted a presale event and sent a select number of fans codes to gain access to tickets. When the presale began, tickets disappeared before most people had a chance to select a seat. This issue with Ticketmaster left most fans that received presale codes without tickets. By the time regular sales rolled around, there were almost none left.
All of the tickets that remained ranged from $300-$500 and finding any for less is nearly impossible. It isn’t just the best seats that have a high price, either; even nosebleed seats were no less than a couple hundred dollars.
Ticket prices as high as Rodrigo’s can be hard to justify for most people, but her show has set high expectations for any fan who bought a seat. The production of the “GUTS” tour is much more advanced than any of her previous live performances. With this new production, came new choreography and dancers too.
As the “GUTS” tour kicked off on February 23 in Palm Springs, California, Rodrigo debuted brand new choreography that included several background dancers. Choreography is incorporated into almost the entirety of the show, yet some people aren’t in full support of the unique dancing being performed.
Mixed reviews of Rodrigo’s new moves started rolling in on Tiktok and Twitter. Some fans have found the choreography underwhelming and slightly odd. As more fans attend shows, people are starting to debate whether or not the new moves and her stage presence match what they were expecting to see at the concert.
