Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels was selected by the Washington Commanders with the second pick of the NFL Draft Thursday night.
Daniels is the first LSU player selected in the 2024 NFL Draft and is the highest drafted LSU player since Joe Burrow in 2020.
Like Burrow, Daniels entered the draft as the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. Daniels threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns during his Heisman season while adding 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.
Daniels played two seasons at LSU after starting his career and playing three seasons at Arizona State.
Over his two years in Baton Rouge, Daniels threw for 6,725 yards and 57 touchdowns (compared to just seven interceptions) and rushed for 2,019 yards and 21 touchdowns while leading LSU to a 19-7 record during that span.
Draft buzz didn’t really start to pick up for Daniels until well into his final season, quickly rising from a projected Day 2 or Day 3 pick to a first-rounder. Eventually, his play brought all the way to a projected top five pick, landing him in Washington.
