Every artist has their magnum opus, but before that, their first hit song must be recognized. Annie Tracy began her music journey on March 31, 2023, when she released her first single “Times It By Two”. Unsurprisingly this song was a hit with over one million streams on Spotify. “Times It By Two” is a song for all lovers stuck in limerence about a specific person from the past. This track is simple without any complex production, which highlights the powerful voice Tracy encompasses.  
 

At the beginning of the track, Tracy includes a story-telling aspect to the song which immediately pulls listeners in. You cannot help but wonder who she is talking about and how this relates to the rest of the song. She repeatedly states “In another life” throughout the first verse to detail a sense of loss and grief towards the person she desires. This allows listeners to gather what the theme of the song may be, which in turn builds understanding and relatability. As the song continues we reach the chorus where the song title is mentioned and the full story begins to unfold. As Tracy is speaking in a first-person point of view, we get to feel her emotions as she expresses how she would change this person’s life two times over. Within the story, listeners now know that Tracy even prays for this person to treat her right with the line “I know it’s not healthy to pray for you to love.” 
 

As the track continues Tracy even reveals how marijuana is another reason as to why the relationship isn’t working. With the line “You got a fetish// You smoke too much lettuce” we were able to gain a bit of insight into the person Tracy is speaking about, which in turn adds more to the story-telling aspect of the song. The tempo of the track begins to pick up as we reach the peak of the song and Tracy begins to show us listeners exactly why a complex background wasn’t needed. Her vocals shine towards the end of the song to show off how much she yearns for the person’s desires. You can infer that Tracy’s vocal techniques are magnificent with the riffs and belts she pulls off at the end of the song.  
 

Annie Tracy disregarded complex background beats that involved the production of instruments with this track. Instead, Tracy used a story-telling technique paired with her powerhouse vocals to create this hit song. On the first try, she was able to create her hit song, now next in line is her magnum opus.
