On Thursday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, LSU women’s basketball held its national championship ring and banner ceremony before the team’s regular season home opener against Queens.
The ceremony started with the ring ceremony, where LSU president, William Tate, and athletic director, Scott Woodward, gave the championship rings to players, coaching staff and support staff.
After the team received their rings, the Final Four banner was raised, which hangs at mid court next to the 2008 Final Four Banner. The national championship banner was then raised, which hangs next to the American flag on the south end of the court above the student section.
In addition to the seven returning players that received their rings, which included Angel Reese, Flau’jae Johnson and more, former LSU guard, Alexis Morris, was in the building to receive her ring as well. In addition, former LSU forward, Emily Ward, who was placed on scholarship her senior season, also received her ring.
The 2023 LSU women’s basketball team is the first basketball team to win a national championship in school history. The team defeated Iowa 102-85 on April 2 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas to secure the national title.
