The episode opens with resident sperm stealer Mary Jane sitting on her bed contemplating life, as she’s about to get her eggs frozen on national television to boost the ratings of her news show.
Gayle King guest stars as herself on her own news show. She’s covering Mary Jane’s egg freezing, and her segment goes to Mary Jane talking to the doctor about freezing her eggs on national TV. Turns out Mary Jane’s eggs can’t be frozen because something went wrong.
Kara tries to comfort her and wipes her tears before she goes back on air. After Mary Jane does her segment and the camera stops rolling, she screams at Kara for making her get her eggs frozen on TV. Kara tells her no one will laugh at her, and lots of women experience this and they’ll be compassionate.
Mary Jane retorts it was Kara’s compassion she needed, but instead she was made to experience her worst nightmare and then show it to the world on camera.
MJ’s mom is on the phone ranting about her decision to get her eggs frozen on TV and now people know she’s reproductively challenged. MJ’s mom seems more upset about the fact MJ possibly can’t conceive than anything, saying she didn’t raise her kids to be “abnormal,” whatever that means.
MJ’s friend Lisa, her mom, Kara and basically everyone she knows calls, including David, who has a baby on the way, but she doesn’t answer them. Lisa then decides to just show up at MJ’s house to console her, but MJ isn’t having it. Lisa tells her she’s concerned about her lifestyle, and MJ gets real telling her not to come at her sideways.
Lisa tries to bring up MJ’s alcoholism, and MJ calls her out for being self-righteous. She then goes right for the jugular saying Lisa can’t judge anyone because she stayed giving blow jobs (can I say this?) to randos in her day.
This conversation, as most on the show do, turns back to David and MJ tells Lisa to wake up because he never wanted her. Lisa peaces out after.
David’s no-good, cheating self shows up to MJ’s house with flowers looking fine. He says he’s just there to support her and leaves after a long, intimate hug.
Back at MJ’s mom’s place, Kyle Massey returns in his role as Niecy’s baby daddy. Cory in the House tries to play with the son he abandoned, but Niecy would prefer if he was gone. She kicks him out, and her grandma witnessing this lectures her for being selfish.
MJ’s little brother Paul is in a meeting hustling and trying to get his high-end retirement home business going. However, he’s told he needs another investor.
Meanwhile, Cory is back in the house and Niecy asks him what he’s doing there. Her messy grandma said she let him in and he’s going to stay. She basically tells Niecy to get over herself and let Cory Baxter be a part of her son’s life. The two then share a heartfelt moment in which she tells Niecy to keep her legs closed.
At work, MJ consults her best formerly-closeted gay friend and co-worker Mark about her life. She complains what she’s doing isn’t journalism and she’s turned into a “corporate whore.”
At her mom’s house baby brother Paul is talking with their dad. His dad is giving him a business lecture in which he randomly references Donald Sterling and tells Paul to ask David to invest. Paul doesn’t want to make MJ angry though and is hesitant.
Paul decides to ask David to invest in his business idea with $5 million. David asks what MJ thinks of all this and Paul lies and says she’s cool with it. David agrees to go over some paper work with Paul and see where this business venture goes.
In the newsroom Kara tells MJ they need a conclusion for the egg freezing segment before they can move on to something else. Naturally, MJ is not here for this, but she knows she has to do it.
MJ hears a knock on her door late at night and brings a bat with her to answer it. It turns out to be her dad though, coming to talk to her about the segment. They have a father-daughter heart to heart and he expresses he feels she doesn’t truly want kids. She denies this, but he tells her she’s accomplished every goal she’s ever had except a husband and a kid, so she probably doesn’t really want it. He tells her what she truly wants is David and she should go get him. He happens to be with another woman with a baby on the way, which MJ brings up. Her dad says she needs to go get her happiness, no matter what.
Later, MJ looks in her bathroom mirror and pretends to have a pregnant belly. The next day, she finishes the segment about egg freezing, and consults the doctor about her chances of getting pregnant. The doctor tells her it’s possible for her to get pregnant with one of the four eggs he took from her, and she decides to go through with it and try for a baby.
