The finale opens at night with Mary Jane asleep in bed at her house. Suddenly, her house alarm goes off and she frantically gets up. The phone rings and it’s ADT, so she asks them to send someone to her house. When the police get there they tell her there was no sign of entry and no traces of a break in. One of the officers says her alarm might have malfunctioned, and MJ uneasily goes back to bed.
She can’t be alone for too long though, still nervous about the alarm, so she calls Sheldon and asks him if she can come over. He agrees, and when she gets there he tells her to get some rest. She gets in his bed, but he tells her to move to the other side, because apparently he doesn’t want her on this specific side of the bed. MJ asks if he’s going to join her, and he declines, saying he has to go do some reading. In the morning, she goes looking for him all over the house, but she can’t find him. When she gets to the bathroom, he’s left a brand new toothbrush for her to use, and MJ seems thrilled by this.
Sheldon was out on his morning run and when he returns, he offers MJ some breakfast. Over her omelette, she asks him if they’re in a relationship. He tells her he’s been operating as if they were, which surprises MJ because she didn’t feel that way. Later, still at Sheldon’s house, MJ gets a call from her friend Val, who tells her David’s dog died. He was really sick and really old, and he had to be put down. This devastates MJ, because she loved the dog too.
At work, MJ gets a visit from Cynthia, who’s being shipped off the network in favor of MJ. She tells MJ she doesn’t know what she bargained for and she’s in for disappointment, leaving MJ to think about what she’s agreed to.
MJ doesn’t have to think about it too long though, as she attends her brother PJ’s dinner party at her parents house. The dinner party is in celebration of PJ accomplishing his dreams and graduating college and the whole family is there. MJ spends the majority of the time on the phone with her producers though, and then has an awkward conversation with Lisa.
The next day, MJ decides it’s OK to bust into Sheldon’s home like she owns the place. He asks her how she got through the gate, and she says she saw his driver put in the code once, so she memorized it, which isn’t creepy at all. She then proceeds to pour herself a drink and take her shoes off and leave them in the middle of his floor, and takes a phone call outside. This visibly bothers Sheldon, and he grabs her stuff and moves it somewhere. That night, MJ pees in Sheldon’s bed, apparently because she wants to call David about the dog, but she feels like she can’t because they’ve broken up. Sheldon encourages her to call, and to please not pee in his bed again.
Sheldon and MJ have a talk the next night and she finds out he doesn’t want marriage or kids. For MJ this seems to be a big deal, and she asks him where this relationship is leading. They have a big blow out over it and MJ decides to leave.
Back at her house, MJ decides to call David. His phone goes straight to voicemail and she leaves him a heartfelt message.
After a long day at work and breaking up with Sheldon over the phone, MJ is driving home when she gets what she thinks is a call from David, who is at his house talking to Lisa. It turns out he accidentally butt dialed her, and he and Lisa get into an argument about how she’s in love with him, but he’s too blind to see it. Lisa goes over the list of things she’s done for him, while he and MJ were together, and telling David about his stolen sperm. MJ hears all of this and the episode ends with her getting into what looks like a serious car accident.
