A slight change of scenery for this episode, instead of seeing the aerial view of the office, we see an airport with Lana, AJ and Archer inside making their way through security.
The couple is in the process of going to meet her parents. For Archer, it’s technically the second time, but he has no recollection of the first introduction. This is due to the fact he showed up to dinner wasted and yelling about mashed potatoes.
While on the plane, Lana warns Archer her parents are unaware of their careers. They have high standards for her because her father Lemuel is a microbiologist and her mother Claudette is a professor.
They are still under the impression Lana is working toward her PhD in environmental science at Columbia University, and Archer is working toward his masters in an unknown field.
When Archer and Lana arrive at her parents’ house, Claudette immediately whisks AJ away in excitement and Lana follows her into the house.
Lemuel stays behind to give a sneering look at Archer before they shuffle inside to join Lana and Claudette.
While they convene outside, Lemuel and Claudette begin questioning Lana and Archer on where they are in their studies. Archer announces he studying “medieval-slavic history.”
Lana tries to avoid the conversation by inviting her parents to talk about themselves, in which Lemuel talks about his recent success with the research project he’s been working on in previous years.
Meanwhile, the rest of the gang run out of gas on their way to their bowling league championship.
Back at the Kanes’ residence, Archer decides to relax in the hot tub when Lemuel comes to join him. He’s completely fine with it, until he takes off his towel and proceeds to enter the hot tub naked.
A few moments later, Claudette does the same thing, and convinces Archer to take his swim trunks off because it’s pointless to have them on.
While they’re all together, Lemuel and Claudette confess to Archer they have something special to ask him, which he interprets as them asking for a threesome.
He outlines his rules for the act and then realizes that’s not nearly what they had in mind after registering the shock on their faces.
As he and Lana discuss the incident, she says she wishes she could have his vocal chords clipped.
Archer defends himself by stating he was just trying to be polite and misinterpreted what this “special secret” actually was.
In the background Claudette begins screaming and at first they think something happened to AJ, but it turns out someone broke into Lemuel’s office and stole his research.
They begin to get shot at by the perpetrators when Archer pulls out his gun and shoots down the car they’re driving. However, the perpetrators exit the car and take off running only to get into a different car.
To update the gang’s situation, Pam is pulling the van alone while everyone else just sits and talks.
Archer convinces Lemuel to let them take his classic mustang on a high-speed chase after the guys.
While Archer is enjoying himself a little too much driving, Lana and Lemuel argue over the fact that she is actually a spy and end up having a heartfelt conversation.
In the midst of this, Archer asks Lemuel about the secret he and Claudette tried to share with him earlier.
Lemuel reveals that they wanted to ask Archer to attend the family reunion because Lana refused to invite him.
Another Pam update: she’s still pulling them and asks if some of the weight can be relieved.
Cheryl decides to throw out the bowling balls to alleviate some of the weight and then a car crashes into them.
Turns out Pam knows the driver of the car from the fight club she used to be involved in. She decides to go hang out at a bar with him and the other guys with him and ditches the rest of the gang.
When the chase between Archer and the unknown guys ends, it turns out it was Slater who stole Lemuel’s research.
Slater says the research has jeopardized the national security and tells Lemuel to check his bank balance for an amount he will receive monthly for the rest of his life in exchange for allowing the CIA to keep his research.
On the flight back to the office, Lana apologizes to Archer. She says she does consider him family and understands how he misconstrued what exactly her parents were asking of him, and personally invites him to the family reunion.
Archer apologizes for considering having sex with Claudette.
