LSU softball welcomed Illinois, Nevada, Lamar and NC State to Tiger Park for the annual Tiger Classic tournament, and while multiple players had great performances, 3 players stood out the most.
Jayden Heavner set the Tiger’s record for fewest hits allowed last season, and it seems that she picked up right where she left off.
Heavener recorded 17 strikeouts, only allowing 9 hits and 3 runs in 11 innings, bringing her earned-run average to an impressive 1.91.
Her teammate, Jalia Lassiter carried the Tigers to victory on the other side of the diamond. Lassiter had 9 hits over the course of the tournament, including a double, triple and homerun, bringing her batting average to .375.
Though the Tigers were the most successful team this past week, Nevada’s Talia Trenton was a shining star on both sides of the field.
On the mound, Trenton recorded 5 strikeouts and only allowed 6 hits throughout the course of the tournament. She also had an impressive performance at the plate, with 3 hits, including a solo shot over the wall, helping her finish with a .600 batting average.
Heavener, Lassiter, and Trenton are definitely players to keep a look out for this upcoming season. No matter what side of the field they are on, they are sure to make an impact.
