Hilliary Clinton announced she would be running for president in a way that has never been done before. Instead of holding a press conference, she released a video describing how she could help the everyday American.
“Who watches press conferences?” Manship School Professor Lance Porter said.
Use of social media greatly picked up in the 2008 elections. It is believed that president Obama’s success was partly due to his social media presence that completely out-shined John McCain’s.
“The way they won the election was through big data,” Porter said.
Social media is becoming the new way that candidates connect and interact one on one with voters.
“Social media is part of the arsenal and is something people are spending more and more time,” visiting scholar Steve Buttry said.
