LSU and former defensive coordinator John Chavis filed lawsuits against each other Friday, mainly over a dispute in the former coach’s contract.
Chavis, currently the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M, filed a lawsuit which “concerns Chavis’ early termination of his employment contract with LSU,” according to a statement by LSU.
The statement also claims the suit was filed in a Texas state court. The University said it doesn’t believe the state of Texas is a proper venue for the matter and that it will “pursue immediate dismissal” of the lawsuit.
LSU concluded the statement by announcing it will be pursuing its own lawsuit “to recover the $400,000 buy-out owed to LSU by Chavis.”
Chavis left LSU shortly after the team’s 31-28 loss to Notre Dame in the 2014 Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl on Dec. 31. Texas A&M announced Chavis as its new defensive coordinator Feb. 5.
