“Parks and Recreation” aired one new episode tonight, in lieu of their usual two. Episode seven follows the events surrounding Donna and Joe’s wedding weekend.
Luckily, Craig is their wedding planner and April is Donna’s maid of honor. Donna chose April, not only because she loves her, but because she knows April can handle the Meagle family drama.
Tom and Lucy are officially dating, and Ron makes sure to embarrass Tom by telling Lucy that Tom wants to marry her one day. He later confesses this true, but Lucy doesn’t mind.
Tom is fulfilling his duties as butler of honor by hosting Donna and Joe’s rehearsal dinner at his restaurant, Tom’s Bistro.
Leslie and Ben are leaving the triplets with their nanny for the night while they spend some time together in a hotel. They receive a surprise visit before leaving their house. Jennifer Barkley, the notorious campaign manager, stops by to suggest that Ben run for Congress, and, of course, she offers to help run the campaign.
Ben isn’t sure he’s up for the task and takes the night to think about it. Leslie wants him to run, but she doesn’t want to pressure him into anything. She suggests they pretend he’s running during the rehearsal dinner and pretend he’s not running during the wedding to weigh both options, but plans change throughout the night.
During the rehearsal dinner, April and Andy work together to keep the Meagle family in line. Donna finds it strange the night has been completely drama free, but that’s because April gave the troublemakers a stern talking to in the restaurant’s kitchen.
Leslie and Ben, who have made the most of their kid-free night, wake up hungover to Ben’s new campaign ad. Ben left Jennifer several drunken voicemails accepting the offer and explaining his platform. Jennifer reassures Ben he will fit in just fine in Congress because they’re always drunk anyway. After some thought, Ben agrees to officially run.
It’s finally time for Donna’s wedding, and she has chosen Leslie and an old friend, Michelle to be her bridesmaid alongside April.
At the reception, the newlyweds congratulate Ben on his new campaign, and the current Terry Gergich is finally referred to as Garry, his real name. This is all thanks to Donna’s accurate place card settings.
The episode ends with Craig serenading the happy couple, only to be interrupted by Donna’s estranged brother, who just happens to be played by the one and only Questlove. Bring on the drama.
