It’s safe to say the most memorable performance at Voodoo Arts and Music Experience Saturday was the rain.
Voodoo day two was a wet one, but that didn’t stop festival-goers from frolicking through the rain in their Halloween costumes and trudging through the mud.
Some even seemed to be enjoying the weather. During Santigold’s evening set, a few costume-clad women were stomping and jumping in a giant mud puddle right on beat with the music.
Many people were prepared with ponchos and rain boots, and those in the VIP section constantly monitored the weather report on the televisions provided.
Though there weren’t as many attendees on Saturday as there were Friday, many still turned up at headlining shows on the Altar Stage.
The band Clutch put on a rousing, rocking performance in front of a soaked crowd. Though the group had to pause during the show to acclimate to the weather once the rain poured harder, the Altar Stage reverberated the band’s hard-hitting rock music throughout the festival grounds.
A while later, it was Santigold’s turn to distract festival audiences from the surrounding sludge.
Santigold had a sizable crowd ready to dance through the rain around the Altar Stage.
Wearing a huge orange bow on her head along with a pajama-like plaid ensemble, she commanded the audience right away with the impossible-not-to-dance-to “You’ll Find a Way (Switch and Sinden Remix).” Her whole set proved party-worthy, and both she and the crowd seemed to be having a good time.
After the heavy showers and sporadic lightning subsided a bit, it was time for Ozzy Osbourne to close day two on the Altar Stage. Osbourne was joined by Geezer Butler, Tom Morello and Slash, and there were middle-aged dads rocking and head banging everywhere. When you’ve been in the game as long as 66-year-old Osbourne has, there’s an entire catalog of hits at your disposal, and he performed plenty of them.
Along with great live performances, there was no shortage of Halloween spirit Saturday.
Naturally some costumes were more creative and tasteful than others, but all in all, most hit the mark. Costume highlights include a couple who were dressed as a firefighter and fire, another couple dressed as Calvin and Hobbes, zombie Elsa of “Frozen” and a winky face emoji.
Bare skin has been a theme among costume-wearers at the festival for the first two days. Regardless of gender, festival-goers aren’t afraid to show skin, and that’s sure to continue Sunday.
