Aside from models, bloggers have become fashion’s newest “it” girls.
From appearing front row at various fashion weeks to gracing the cover of fashion magazines, bloggers have stormed the fashion scene. Their admission to a traditionally exclusive industry has provided a new career field for some within the fashion realm.
This new niche in the fashion industry has blown up in recent years with the rise of social media platforms, resulting in an influx in the number of blogs all over the internet.
Many bloggers have monetized their sites, creating a name for themselves and their blogs. CNN reported that some fashion bloggers have turned this fashionable hobby into a full-time job, with some generating six-figure annual salaries. The bloggers who have obtained a massive follower count charge more for brand sponsored posts, some even pricing as much as $50,000 per post, according to CNN.
With the advances in technology, fashion blogging has exploded. Bloggers are connecting, sharing, and interacting with their fans via platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and a multitude of other social media sites. Blogging today is much different than it was five years ago- the rise of social media platforms correlates to the increase in blogging.
Krystal Faircloth, a graphic designer and blogger from Baton Rouge, believes that social media has propelled the careers of many bloggers.
“There are many different skill sets that are used, like social media strategy, branding, photography, and art direction upon which a blogger can capitalize on when it comes to careers in digital media,” Faircloth said.
There are more ways in which a blogger can reach an audience or brand. Instead of solely relying on their website to bring in revenue, they extend their influence to platforms like Instagram to post pictures wearing a brand that is paying them to feature the brand’s items.
Fashion has become much more obtainable through the bloggers who pair up with name brands, such as Gucci or Chanel, for collaborations. Instead of waiting to see the pictures of runway shows hours or days after the show premiered, fashion fans are able to see live videos from Snapchat, or front-row pictures on Instagram from their beloved bloggers.
Bloggers have become a vehicle for fashion lovers by releasing insider access to those with whom they provide content for. They have blurred the lines of exclusivity in the fashion industry by chronicling the world of fashion for people who want a peek inside.
