Hillary Clinton was welcomed with a band, supporters and a sea of “H” stickers when she arrived in Baton Rouge to campaign at the Louisiana State Institute on Monday.
“I’m not running for my husbands third term, I’m not running for Barack Obama’s third term; I’m running for my first term,” sad Clinton. “I will be proud to carry that democratic record forward.”
She talked about her support for Obamacare and her disgust with the Republican Party and their debates.
“Not one of them has said anything about enforcing equal pay for equal work, for hard working women,” said Clinton.
She also talked about Hurricane Katrina and criticized David Vitter for his role as Senator during that time period.
“We couldn’t find your other senator, a man by the name David Vitter,” said Clinton. “I said to Mary where is he? Where is he?”
LSU political communication major Helen Frink says she is surprised that Clinton mentioned Vitter and appreciates her boldness.
“I do want to run for office statewide, so I look up to her a lot,” said Frink.
Clinton also said she does not think Republicans are good candidates for President.
“I sometimes wonder, why is it democratic presidents who have to just come in and clean up the messes?”
After the speech, Clinton met with supporters before departing to campaign in Arkansas.
