The gang is sitting Paddy’s Pub enjoy their usual mid-morning beers. Dee is bragging about her latest boyfriend, a man she found by using the app “Bunchr,” which tells users where to find large groups of single people. Apparently, Dee managed to trick the innocent man into dating her.
Frank finds the whole idea of Bunchr to be ridiculous. Instead, he reminisces of the time when orgies were a go-to option for group dating.
Charlie brings up the topic of the Waitress – a woman who has rejected his advances for the last ten years. He admits to the gang with total surprise that things just haven’t been working out with her. Charlie asks for advice on dating the Waitress.
Dennis suggests once again implementing his D.E.N.N.I.S. System, as first mentioned in season 5. This “system” is a manipulative and predatory list of steps Dennis uses to lure women into trusting him. Mac and Charlie instead take a page from Dee and decide to host group-dating sessions at Paddy’s for serious profits.
The next night, Paddy’s is packed with singles looking to mingle. Dennis prepares Mac and Charlie for socialization by explaining his “dog leash” story. This is a lie Dennis has concocted to make women sympathize for him because of a false runaway dog. Within moments of executing the lie, three women become more interested in Mac, Charlie and Dennis.
Dee is happily tending bar during this mixer. While raking in money for Paddy’s, she tells Frank she’s bought her boyfriend a promise ring. Frank spoils Dee’s moment of excitement by revealing that he is wearing a cock ring in expectation of an orgy. When Dee expresses her disgust and disdain, we hear a metal clanking sound on the floor, followed by an aggravated expression on Frank’s face.
Mac, Charlie and Dennis are attempting to chat up a group of women. As Dennis begins to lay on thick his dog leash story, Mac and Charlie intervene, revealing to the women that there is no dog. In an attempt to save the date, Charlie begins talking about his love for the Waitress and how he once kicked a dog just to save the Waitress.
The situation escalates when Mac tries to push Charlie off the subject of the Waitress, calling her gross. Charlie becomes infuriated at Mac and Dennis decides to break the two idiots up by swapping their seats around. He then begins berating the women at the table, being offensively honest with them about he finds them to be subpar forms of attractiveness. The whole ordeal is interrupted by a man, logically looking for a drink in a bar. Again, Charlie tries to reveal the D.E.N.N.I.S. System to the women. Mac tries futilely to continue the ruse.
Dee’s so-called boyfriend approaches her while bartending. He seems standoffish and uninterested in Dee in general. It quickly becomes apparent that his “boyfriend” is not entirely attracted to Dee. In fact, the only reason he is at Paddy’s that night is because he’s meeting someone via Bunchr.
The boyfriend spots Dee’s promise ring on the bar. Trying to save some face, Dee lies and says it’s actually a cock ring. Her father’s cock ring, to be exact. She then “breaks up” with her boyfriend, who doesn’t seem to care or even really notice.
Later in the night, Paddy’s is empty save for the gang, who are counting the stacks of money made in the mixer. Dee is annoyed at her “ex.” Her rage manifests itself in the form of Raters, another dating app used to rate people you meet with Bunchr. She gives him a low rating.
Intrigued by the ratings, Charlie and Dennis find themselves on the site, only to find that they are ranked higher than Dennis. This bothers Dennis immensely, since he sees himself as literal perfection.
The next night, throngs of people are at Paddy’s again due to Bunchr’s growing popularity. In the back room, Frank preps Charlie and Mac for mingling. Asked for good conversation topics, Mac offers up another topic, referring to the distinctive bowel movements caused by consuming creatine for muscle building. Frank advises Charlie to keep quiet about the Waitress during the dates.
Dee tries out Dennis dog leash on an unsuspecting surgeon. She immediately screws up the lie, causing her to throw out the trick and instead come clean. She expresses her wish to take the man home and buys him a shot. After shooting, he tells Dee he isn’t much of a drinker, only to have her leave the table for another round.
Dennis finds himself sitting at a table with three girls. He attempts to impress them, but his actions are halted when one of them pulls out her phone. Since learning about the online rating system, Dennis has become paranoid about his standing in the ranks. He pulls out his dog leash and subsequently butchers the lie. He becomes frustrated and yells at the women while Dee fireman carries the drunken surgeon out of the bar.
In preparation for the third night of mixers at Paddy’s, Frank assembles Mac and Charlie in the back room. Frank wants to flesh out better conversation topics to use during mingling.
Mac makes it clear that he worried about unintentionally going home with a Jewish woman. Being a devout Catholic, Mac wants no business with “a person who killed our Lord and Savior.” Instead, he suggests telling his many ethnic jokes to lighten the mood.
Fed up, Frank pulls out a small whistle and begins blowing it furiously. He explains that he will now blow a whistle on any and all bad dates to avoid wasting time. The three men go out to the bar to mingle. Frank introduces himself as “Frak,” curses loudly and immediately blows the whistle on himself.
Meanwhile, Dennis is visibly annoyed by his online ratings and blames the idea of group dating for his decline in popularity.
At Dee’s apartment, the surgeon from last night slept over. Dee is hurrying him out of her door. Concerned about being rejected, the surgeon explains that he hopes this hasn’t been a one-night stand. Dee reassures him that she will call. After closing the door, she runs to her laptop to rate her date with him. Dennis shows up and shames Dee for rating all of her dates.
Dee turns the tables on Dennis, asking how online ratings are any different from his collection of secret, rated videotapes of all his sexual encounters. In response to the D.E.N.N.I.S. System, Dee has created the D.E.E. System, although she can’t seem to find a good third word beginning with an E.
Another night of group dates at Paddy’s and Dennis is exclusively discussing his ratings with the women he meets. He is obsessed and his craze drives women away. As a last ditch effort, Dennis decides to target what he calls “undesirable” women. Dee, on the other hand, is surrounded by men.
A montage shows Frank, Charlie and Mac attempting to mingle with different tables of women. At each misstep, Frank is at the ready with his whistle, calling out Charlie’s obsession with cats. A separate montage shows Dee and her continuous slue of one-night stands, each of which is received with a one-star rating.
Dennis is sitting in a fancy restaurant. In walks the Waitress, with whom he has apparently set a date. This meeting is particularly odd, since Dennis has continuously rejected the Waitress’s interests over the last decade. Dennis confesses that he feels awful for the way he has treated women.
He shows the Waitress that he has a ring – the same promise ring Dee planned to give her boyfriend. Dennis reveals that the date, the confession, even the ring, have all been just so the Waitress will give him a good rating.
The Waitress agrees but isn’t sure how she’s supposed to rate him. Dennis explains that it’s an online rating system. Before he can finish, the Waitress tells him that she doesn’t have “online.” Her large, outdated phone doesn’t use “the email.” This obsolescence drives Dennis into a rage. He stands up in the restaurant and begins pointing at women, yelling “rate” in their faces.
Back at a relatively empty Paddy’s, Frank, Mac and Charlie are hitting it off with three women. Dennis barges in, yelling and pointing. He sees there are no other women left in the bar, most likely because nobody has been bartending the whole night.
In a corner, Dee is surrounded by less-than-handsome men. She is confused. They are all one-night stands with subpar ratings, yet they returned to Dee. Apparently Dee’s system failed to weed out the desperate men of Philadelphia.
After emptying the bar, Dennis has a revelation about his self-worth. He proceeds to give a “locker room” speech to the gang, saying that value comes from within, not your outward appearance. Frank’s cell phone chimes, showing that Dennis has reached a zero-star rating. He tries to play it off, but instead grabs Franks phone and throws it to the ground. He screams in rage ending the episode.
